Taqueria Los Pericos

By Kelsea Dizon and Sofia Jorgenson

Eating at Taqueria Los Pericos became a weekly—dare we say almost daily—tradition for us. With large, flavorful portions for a cheap price, Los Pericos offers a plethora of tasty Mexican dishes. Normally opting for the carne asada tacos, we also rotate between the burritos and quesadillas; you can upgrade to a super taco, super burrito, or super quesadilla as well, for a couple more dollars. In addition, Los Pericos offers a wide variety of meat options: chicken, carne asada (steak), carnitas (pork), shrimp, fish, and lengua (cow tongue). If you do not prefer eating meat with your meal, they also offer vegetarian items.

If prices do concern you while eating out, the prices do start to climb for their specialty plates. However, you can pair your dish with the unlimited chips and salsa bar if you eat inside the restaurant. Even if you decide to take your meal to go, they include a complimentary bag of chips, and you can load up on as many to-go sauces or limes at the salsa bar. Moreover, why not add their freshly-made flan and horchata (they make it daily) for a sweet addition to your meal? If you need help on what to get, we both have some tasty recommendations.

Sofie: For weeks in a row, I would get the same carne asada taco, never getting sick of it. I started trying different items on the menu and the super nachos now stand at the top of my list. Containing meat, chips, salsa, guacamole, and extra toppings, Los Pericos’s super nachos have all you need in one dish. And if you’re still hungry for dessert, don’t hesitate to try some freshly made flan. I would rate Taqueria Los Pericos a whopping 10/10.

Kelsea: Normally, I opt for the same thing each time: two carne asada tacos. However, they put so much meat on the tacos and they double layer the tortilla, so I usually take half the meat off the tacos and put it on the second tortillas to get four delicious tacos. Considering that one taco is about $3, I get four tacos for $6. Sometimes I decide to get the super quesadilla with carne asada meat, but I honestly prefer the tacos more. Their horchata is amazing, but if they are running low, it tends to get very grainy. Overall, I would rate Taqueria Los Pericos a solid 8/10.
